Massive Publishing Launches Luchaverse, with Rey Mysterio and Tinieblas Jr.

In the world of Lucha Libre, wrestlers are heroes both in and out of the ring. While they may spend their days working out and setting good examples for children, by night they do battle with evil in all forms. This idea informed multiple media, featuring legendary luchadors like El Santo and Tinieblas. In that spirit, Massive Publishing and Masked Republic, are partnering with Rey Mysterio and Tinieblas Jr. to form the Luchaverse.

Described as “a genre-blending thrill ride,” the Luchaverse will honor the values of Lucha Libre. Each issue will feature today’s most famous luchadors, presenting them as the latest in a long line of monster hunters. The three-part miniseries establishing the setting will find these heroes investigating a centuries old mystery and an unimaginable dark power.

The Wrestlers and Creators Behind The Luchaverse

Rey Mysterio is the most recognized luchador on the planet. He will star in the first chapter of Luchaverse: Cataylyst #1, where he learns of his legacy as a warrior against darkness. Aided by a mysterious military group known as The Ambassadors, he must locate an ancient temple and the artifact it contains – the Mask of the First Mysterio!

The second story stars Tinieblas Jr. whose father, Tinieblas, had his own comic in Mexico in the 1970s. An established protector of the human and monster realms, Tinieblas Jr. and his assistant Ramona will approach the same problem as Rey Mysterio and the Ambassadors from another angle. This will lead to a team-up between the two luchadors to save both worlds.

The Luchaverse concept was created by Masked Republic President & COO Kevin Kleinrock and Founder and CEO Ruben Zamora. The first issue is written by Ivan Plaza and Marco Lopez. The Rey Mysterio story will be drawn by Ben Harvey. The Tinieblas Jr. story will feature art by Diego Simone. Both artists have also produced covers for the series, with a third cover provided by Francesco Tomaselli.
