New Stargirl Concept Art Shows a Closer Look at Yvette Monreal’s Wildcat

A little more than a month separates the fans from the premiere of DC Universe’s Stargirl. To pump up the fans, new concept art of Yvette Monreal’s Wildcat has been released. In the show, she will join the titular heroine and the Justice Society of America to fight the villains.

In the comics, Yolanda Montez is born with superhero powers after her mother takes some experimental drugs while pregnant. She then assumes her godfather’s identity — Wildcat — after he ended his career as a masked vigilante. Created by Roy Thomas, Dannette Thomas, and Don Newton, she made her first appearance in Infinity Inc. #12 in March 1985.

Stargirl will follow the story of Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) who is a smart, athletic and above all else kind girl. This high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. “Borrowing” the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.

Character creator Geoff Johns will write and produce the series through his Mad Ghost Productions banner together with Greg Berlanti and Berlanti Productions.

The upcoming Stargirl series will premiere on Monday, May 18 on DC Universe. The CW will follow, reshowing the premiere on Tuesday, May 19. What do you think about the new Stargirl concept art? Do you like Wildcat’s costume? Let us know your impression in the comments section below.
