A new rumor for Man of Tomorrow suggests fans will finally see Brainiac’s bottled cities brought to life on a practical set in an unexpected way. The upcoming film will mark the first time audiences see the villain on the big screen in live-action. Lars Eidinger will play the villain in the Superman sequel.
According to an image posted by @CartierFilms, Man of Tomorrow will feature a practical set depicting Brainiac’s collection of bottled cities.
The insider suggested that the set is similar to Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, which was also a practical set. It should be noted that this is just a rumor and should be treated as such, as DC Studios has not officially commented on the matter. “It’s a built set, btw, not CGI,” wrote the user.
Why the rumored practical set in Man of Tomorrow has fans excited
If the rumor turns out to be true, fans have plenty of reason to be excited. For starters, showcasing the villain’s collection of cities would likely tease the existence of Kandor, the capital city of Krypton that was stolen by Brainiac in the comics.
In the ongoing DCU, it was revealed that Superman’s parents sent him to Earth to conquer it, a decision Supergirl’s parents did not support. Finding the bottled city of his homeworld would carry massive narrative implications for the future of the DCU.
A practical set for the room depicting the same should also help viewers connect more with the worldbuilding on display. The Fortress of Solitude in 2025’s Superman was a much-discussed topic, with fans commending the use of practical talent in building the set instead of wholly relying on CGI and VFX. Director James Gunn has already shown his interest in building practical sets and suits, as evidenced by Lex Luthor’s new warsuit.
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
