Marvel Studios is reportedly getting ready to announce the cast of its upcoming X-Men reboot.
Ever since San Diego Comic-Con 2019, X-Men fans have known that Marvel Studios had a plan to eventually introduce mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio has reimagined Ms. Marvel as a mutant for her Disney+ series, added Namor to the MCU, brought back Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and produced the third Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds in the seven years since the SDCC announcement.
While the original cast from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise will be used in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios has been working on its own reboot of the film series since late 2023. Michael Lesslie and Jake Schreier were confirmed in 2025 to be writing and directing the X-Men reboot, although Joanna Calo and Lee Sung Jin were recently brought on to rewrite Lesslie’s script, having previously worked with Schreier on Thunderbolts*.
When will Marvel Studios announce the cast of the MCU X-Men reboot?
With a director and writers locked down, notable scooper The Beyond Reporter shared on X that the “X-Men cast will be revealed in July at San Diego Comic-Con and will be the big announcement of the event” for Marvel Studios.
No actors have been officially announced yet to star in Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot. However, two actors who are believed to be part of the project are set to make their MCU debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman’s roles in the Spider-Man sequel remain undisclosed, although multiple scoopers and reports have stated that they will be playing Jean Grey and William Metzger, respectively, two prominent characters from the X-Men comics.
Jean Grey is one of the original five X-Men. It’s unclear at this time how she will fit into Brand New Day, although The Punisher will reportedly be protecting her from Damage Control, the director of which is Metzger. Sink’s MCU deal reportedly includes starring in Avengers: Secret Wars and the X-Men reboot. The details of Tillman’s MCU deal have not been shared yet.
Julia Butters and Jacob Elordi have also been linked to the MCU’s X-Men reboot. Butters is being eyed to play Kitty Pryde, while Elordi is “very high” on Marvel’s list of actors for X-Men. Timothée Chalamet and Sink’s Stranger Things co-star Finn Wolfhard have also been rumored for possible roles in the superhero reboot.
Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot is not expected to be released after the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga in 2027.
