Freakier Friday’s Julia Butters is reportedly being eyed to play Kitty Pryde in the MCU.
Butters has starred in movies such as 2016’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, 2022’s The Fabelmans, and more, while she’ll soon be seen in Disney’s upcoming sequel to Freaky Friday, Freakier Friday, which will be released in United States theaters this August.
Now, according to a recent report, Butters may be headed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Butters is being eyed to play Kitty Pryde, an X-Men character created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne who was introduced in Marvel Comics in 1980.
What else do we know about the Julia Butters Kitty Pryde rumor?
It’s not clear when Kitty Pryde will be making her official MCU debut, though she’ll likely be involved in the new iteration of X-Men that Kevin Feige plans to introduce sometime in the future.
Butters has notably worked with Anthony and Joe Russo before on 2022’s The Gray Man, as she played Claire in that movie — meaning she already has a working relationship with the directors of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, should those movies serve as a gateway to the introducing the MCU’s X-Men. She’s also worked with Disney when voicing Lorelei Worthington in the Monsters at Work series.
Butters’ casting has not been officially confirmed, as Marvel Studios has not commented on the matter.
According to Sneider, Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink and Babygirl’s Harris Dickinson are also being eyed to play Jean Grey and Scott Summers in the MCU; however, this has also not been confirmed as no deal has yet been signed. Sneider notes that “a variety of factors” could affect their potential deals, namely money and scheduling.
No X-Men movie at Marvel has been given an official release date at this time.
