Who’s involved in the Maul: Shadow Lord series?
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord was first announced during this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. The animated series will feature the voice of Star Wars vet Sam Witwer as he reprises his role as Darth Maul from Dave Filoni’s popular The Clone Wars and Rebels shows. It is created and executive produced by Filoni. The creative team includes head writer Matt Michnovetz and supervising director Brad Rau, who are also executive producing alongside Lucasfilm VP of animation Athena Portillo.

It is expected to take place “about a year” after the events of The Clone Wars. According to Witwer, the show will explore new sides of the titular villain. The character was originally portrayed by Ray Park and Peter Serafinowicz in 1999’s The Phantom Menace.
“We learn some different things about this character,” Witwer previously shared during the show’s announcement. “He’s got some different traits that you wouldn’t necessarily think he has that make perfect sense from what he’s been through.”
“Unfortunately I can’t tell you too much, but what I can say is Sam Witwer’s involvement in the show has been pristine,” Portillo added. “I’m very excited about him being able to review the scripts and provide input in all of that as well. Dave Filoni and Sam created the character for animation, and so it’s very important to hear his thoughts as well for the character depth.”
