After Dredd 3D opened to abismal numbers last fall, its future as a franchise seemed DOA. Many fans were pleased with the announcement that a spiritual sequel would be coming in the form of a comic book later this year, but it's still not the same. In an interview with Collider, Karl Urban says that an actual sequel might materialize now that there's an audience for the movie.
“Interestingly enough, I did have breakfast with Alex Garland this morning. It’s not off the agenda. Clearly everyone has woken up to the fact that an audience has found this movie and loves it. It’s entirely possible, and if people want to see another installment then they should be vocal about that, because, it can happen. The power of fandom can resurrect projects. In fact, that’s what happened with Star Trek. They weren’t going to do a third season until fans did a letter writing campaign and they continued that series.”
Dredd has already gone on to be a bit of a cult classic, becoming one of the highest-selling Blu-rays at the start of the year. Would you be interested in seeing a sequel to the film? Sound off below!
