BioWare Announces Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Work on Next Game

November 7th is unofficially “N7 day” at BioWare, and they couldn’t let it pass without some new Mass Effect announcements. Commander Shepard will look sharper than ever in the upcoming Mass Effect Legendary Edition, a complete remaster of the original game trilogy. Modifications include “updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games.” They’ll include all previous DLC content, remastered in 4K UHD. Though the initial release in Spring 2021 targets Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, forward-compatibility and targeted enhancements will work for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

BioWare released a brief trailer along with the announcement. it doesn’t reveal much, but the upgraded character looks get shown off.

But that’s not the only Mass Effect news. BioWare also let slip that “a veteran team has been hard at work envisioning the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe. We are in early stages on the project and can’t say any more just yet, but we’re looking forward to sharing our vision for where we’ll be going next.”

Could they be thinking Mass Effect 4? Or a different kind of spin-off game? Presumably it will go fully next-gen for the newer consoles coming out.
