Popular Disney Franchise Is Getting Unique New TV Show After Movie Announcement — Rumor

Disney+ is reportedly developing a new TV show for one of its most popular franchises. The Descendants universe has already spawned a number of memorable movies, with another installment on the way. Now, it looks like a show might be on the cards as well.

According to industry insider MyTimeToShineHello, a new Descendants anthology series is in early development at Disney+. The scooper also claimed that Tim Federle, the creator of the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, is in talks to helm the show.

MyTimeToShineHello is often considered a reliable source after multiple accurate reports in the past. However, fans must note that the new claim remains unconfirmed for now. Disney has not made any official announcements regarding the development of a Descendants series.

While the potential show has yet to be confirmed, Disney recently greenlit a new Descendants movie, featuring an exciting twist.

How many Descendants movies and TV shows have there been so far?

Disney’s Descendants franchise has released five movies so far. They are:

  • Descendants (2015)
  • Descendants 2 (2017)
  • Descendants 3 (2019)
  • Descendants: The Rise of Red (2024)
  • Descendants: Wicked Wonderland (2026)

Most recently, Disney expanded the universe by announcing a new installment in the Descendants franchise. Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story promises the same musical and visual treat but will focus on the children of famous Disney sidekicks rather than the Disney heroes and villains of the previous movies.

According to the official logline, Hidden Heroes is set in a secret training facility, Sidekick Academy, where “the descendants of legendary sidekicks are challenged to join the elite ranks of partners to heroes.”

The lead cast of the movie includes Dior Goodjohn as Jennie, the daughter of Genie from Aladdin; Momona Tamada as Zara, the daughter of Yzma, and Kronk Jr., the son of Kronk, from The Emperor’s New Groove; Eva Fossaceca Smedley as Meri, the daughter of Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty; and Harry Jones as Lou, the son of Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast. Rhys Dawkins, Connor Wong, and Kyra Wong have also joined the cast as the Potts siblings from Beauty and the Beast.
