Star Trek Follows Gen V & Evil Dead With Its Wildest Twist Yet

The Star Trek franchise is following in the footsteps of Gen V and Evil Dead. Their new episodes have come in with the wildest twist yet in the series’ decades-long history.

According to a recent report from CinemaBlend, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is officially delivering a puppet episode for fans. The entire crew will transform into puppets following a ‘Level-Five Transporter Incident.’ Thankfully, going by the pictures shared by the website’s newsletter, Captain Spock does not appear to be affected by the transformation, as he maintains his original form.

The synopsis reads, per TrekMovie, “A transporter malfunction turns most of the crew into puppets while Spock fights to reclaim the ship.” Now then, this particular episode is enough evidence that the franchise is trying to mimic the Evil Dead and the Gen V franchise. For context, both franchises had puppet scenes or episodes that garnered significant reactions from the fans.

How Strange New Worlds turned Star Trek into TV’s biggest experiment

Strange New Worlds has been quite brave in its approach to the Star Trek stories. Throughout the season, there have been new experiments that surprised the fans. For example, the fourth episode, which is titled A Case of Chiaroscuro, has reportedly adapted the old Hollywood noir movies and will drop in black-and-white.

A similar sort of experimentation was done when the director dropped a horror-themed episode. Titled The Griffin Incident, the episode tried to direct the Star Trek story into a spooky world.

Directed by Axelle Carolyn, the director told TrekMovie in an interview, “I understand the criticism about the answers not being given at the end, like the scientific explanation… That was also something we discussed, and I felt like I understand that one of the tenets of Star Trek is we can explore the universe, and science would always bring us home and help us understand what’s going on.”

Despite occasional backlash, Strange New Worlds continues to prove that it isn’t afraid to experiment with new formats while keeping the core spirit of exploration alive.
