Wednesday: Why Jenna Ortega Thought Joining Netflix Show’s Cast Would End Her Career

Jenna Ortega has opened up about feeling worried and nervous. The American actress thought working on Wednesday would end her career. Season 2 of the supernatural mystery comedy premiered on Netflix in August 2025. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the third season’s release.

During her recent interview with Esquire, Ortega shared, “I thought my career was going to be over after that. I panicked. I had no idea. I was so confused. And then they started talking about this show and this big release that they were doing.”

While filming, the project did not feel like a huge production to Ortega. Looking back, the Scream star added that she now realizes that she underestimated the project despite Tim Burton’s involvement as one of the directors and executive producers. She admitted, “And when we were shooting in Romania, it felt like this small little thing, which maybe was naive because Tim Burton was involved, but the cast and I used to laugh about it like, ‘Wow, this is an insane shoot for it to really not be acknowledged.'”

Jenna Ortega started her career back in 2012 in the sitcom Rob as a child actor. Following her acting debut, she has been a part of several renowned projects. But the 23-year-old American actor rose to fame portraying Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series.

“I can’t stand to watch myself. I saw part of the first episode, had a mental breakdown, called my friend Matt. I was like, it’s up. Like, okay, here we go,” said Ortega, sharing her feelings after the release of Wednesday’s debut season.

What do we know about Wednesday Season 3 so far?

At the end of Season 2, Wednesday defeated Isaac Night and saved his younger brother Pugsley. The show concluded with Wednesday going in search of Enid Sinclair, accompanied by her Uncle Fester.

Season 3 will be directed by Tim Burton. Jenna Ortega will be reprising her role as the titular lead. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Emma Myers will also be returning for the third season. Winona Ryder is a new addition to the cast, and she will play Tabitha. Morticia’s sister and Wednesday’s Aunt Ophelia will be reportedly portrayed by Eva Green.

Co-creator and showrunner Alfred Gough has stated per Tudum by Netflix, “Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can.” Miles Millar, co-creator, writer, and executive producer of the series, added, “We will be seeing more Addams family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!”

The third season is currently under production. However, the confirmed release date for the series is yet to be announced by Netflix.
