Rumor: Surprising DCEU Movie Becomes DCU Canon in Peacemaker Season 2

A new rumor surrounding the upcoming Peacemaker Season 2 suggests that James Gunn is ready to make a surprising entry in the DCEU canon to the new DC Universe.

What is the latest rumor about the DCU and DCEU?

According to a new rumor from noted insider My Time To Shine, Peacemaker Season 2 will make David Ayer’s Suicide Squad “somewhat canon” to the new DCU. It’s unclear exactly what about it will be canon, but fans have theorized that certain characters, like Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, might make their way into the DCU.

However, more information courtesy of CBM sheds some light on the actual character making their way over.

After My Time to Shine’s initial post, CBM noted that the insider mentioned it will be Joel Kinnaman, who played Rick Flag Jr. in both Suicide Squad and The Suicide Squad, who will be making the jump to Peacemaker Season 2. According to CBM’s report of My Time to Shine’s information, Kinnaman will reprise his role as Flag in a flashback scene, as well as an “alternate version” of Flag that is still alive in another dimension.

Peacemaker Season 2 will largely follow the continued adventures of the character, played by John Cena. However, the trailer for the HBO series did tease Peacemaker finding a new dimension in which he is actually a beloved hero.

Alongside Cena, Peacemaker Season 2 will star Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury, Michael Rooker as Red St. Wiold, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, and more.

Peacemaker Season 2 premieres on HBO Max on August 21, 2025. The first season and The Suicide Squad, meanwhile, are currently available to watch on the streaming platform.
