Stranger Things: Tales From ’85: First Details Revealed About Animated Show

The first details about Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 have been revealed.

While Stranger Things fans anxiously await the final season of the Netflix series, an animated show set in Hawkins is also currently in the works. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer are executive producing Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, while Eric Robles will serve as showrunner.

What do we know about Stranger Things: Tales From ’85?

At the 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, per The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that the new show is set “in the stark winter of 1985,” meaning it will take place between the events of Stranger Things Season 2 and Season 3.

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 features “the show’s original characters — with one new edition, Nikki, a tough, mohawk-wearing gal — fighting new monsters and unravel[ing] a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town.”

Robles told those in attendance at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival that the show’s tone is inspired by 1980s cartoons like Masters of the Universe, Scooby-Doo, Dungeons and Dragons, and The Real Ghostbusters, which all had a few episodes that were “really dark and really creepy.”

The article further notes, “The final design landed a world away from those shows, drawing from CGI stylings of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Arcane, the spookiness of the classic Goosebumps book covers, and character designs from Meybis Ruiz Cruz (Entergalactic). New monsters, including pumpkins, zombies, and a toothy snow shark, come courtesy of creature designer Carlos Huante.”

Robles, Hilary Leavitt, Shawn Levy, and Dan Cohen also serve as executive producers with the Duffer Brothers, while Australia’s Flying Bark is the animation studio.

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 does not yet have a premiere date, though it is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2026. The final season of Stranger Things, meanwhile, begins this November.
