Rory McCann is set to take over the role of Baylan Skoll in Season 2 of Star Wars: Ahsoka, replacing the late Ray Stevenson. McCann recently opened up about filling in such great shoes.
Speaking to ComicBook in a recent interview, McCann was asked about replacing Stevenson, and noted that he believes it’s the right decision to carry on Skoll’s storyline instead of just ending it. He also hopes that fans will receive his performance well and that he’ll be doing his best to live up to Stevenson’s performance.
“I think it’s the right decision to carry on his storyline, not just cut it off,” McCann said. “We’ve done it before with other things. I hope the fans embrace it, and I’ll do my best. I’m just starting now, so I’m just trying to be in the right zone for doing it. It’s pretty bloody exciting. I mean, I remember being a kid with my dad, going to the first one probably in the late ’70s and ’80s. Now I’m training with a lightsaber at night, so it’s pretty exciting.”
McCann also opened up about his training for the upcoming season, including what it’s like training with lightsabers versus swords like he did in Game of Thrones.
“Thrones has really helped with that. Same kind of moves, same blocking,” said McCann. “Doesn’t have the same sexy sound though. Oh, my God . . . Lightsabers are lighter, but having said that, the Thrones swords were stunt swords and you’ve got to pretend that they’re three times heavier than they are. But it’s all pretend, really. It’s all very exciting.”
Stevenson played Skoll in Season 1 of Ahsoka, which came out shortly after the actor passed away. McCann was announced to be portraying Skoll in Season 2 earlier this year, although it’s unclear when fans will see him in his role, as Ahsoka Season 2 has no official release date as of now.
