DC fans shouldn’t expect much from DC Studios and James Gunn at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con.
Gunn, who co-leads DC Studios with Peter Safran, recently revealed details about the company’s SDCC 2025 plans. Despite Superman set to be released in theaters two weeks before SDCC 2025 kicks off on July 24, the first movie in the DC Universe will not be the focus of DC Studios’ panel. Instead, Gunn shared that the highly anticipated second season of Peacemaker will take up most of the panel’s time.
What did James Gunn reveal about DC Studios’ SDCC 2025 panel?
“It’s just me and John [Cena] and Peacemaker,” Gunn wrote on Threads in a response to a fan asking about DC’s SDCC plans. While a panel focused largely on Peacemaker Season 2 may disappoint some of the DCU fandom, Gunn did add that he will “of course . . . talk about everything,” suggesting that small updates about the rest of the DCU slate will also be shared during the panel. However, fans should not be expecting anything on the level of what Marvel Studios has done in the past at SDCC with its Hall H panels.
Gunn recently divulged several new details about Peacemaker Season 2 during a recent interview with EW. He confirmed that the new season picks up roughly two years after the first season, the events of which will be retroactively established as taking place in the DCU, with some minor changes. “I see how difficult, after all my time at Marvel, it is to make things truly fit together, so it’s an unspecified amount of a couple of years,” Gunn explained.
Michael Rooker’s mysterious Peacemaker role has also been revealed, with the actor set to play Red St. Wild, who will antagonize Peacemaker’s eagle sidekick Eagly throughout the season. Gunn described the character as “the world’s foremost eagle hunter.”
As for why Eagly is getting his own storyline in the new season, Gunn explained, “We thought Eagly was probably the most popular character from Season 1. So in Season 2, he has his own story with his nemesis, played by none other than the despicable Michael Rooker.”
Red St. Wild will mark Rooker’s third role in the DCU, having voiced Sam Fitzgibbon in Creature Commandos and Kryptonian Robot #5 in the upcoming Superman. He also portrayed Savant in the DC Extended Universe movie The Suicide Squad.
The 2025 San Diego Comic-Con runs from Thursday, July 24 to Sunday, July 27, 2025.
