In the build-up to the premiere of the highly anticipated Peacemaker Season 2, showrunner James Gunn has shed some light on when the second season is set. Having made its debut on the small screens in 2022, the Peacemaker series is finally receiving a follow-up season after three years. With James Gunn’s DCU still taking shape, many fans have been wondering when Peacemaker is set in the new timeline. Now, Gunn has given these fans an answer to their query.
Peacemaker Season 2 is set about ‘a couple of years’ after Season 1
In a recent discussion, James Gunn provided an insight into when Peacemaker Season 2 is set, noting that the second season will take place some years after the events of Season 1.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn confirmed that there will be a significant time jump in Peacemaker Season 2, stating, “I see how difficult, after all my time at Marvel, it is to make things truly fit together, so it’s an unspecified amount of a couple of years.”
This “unspecified” time jump in Peacemaker Season 2 would allow Gunn and other DCU creators to set new storylines around fresh characters without worrying about impacting the established continuity. Fans have already seen the advantages of such an approach, with Gunn integrating the events of Peacemaker Season 1 into the revamped DCU’s first outing, Creature Commandos.
In accordance, Gunn also confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 is “very much connected to Superman and it’s very much connected to what comes after.” He even teased the potential appearance of a major character in the second season of the John Cena-led series, noting that fans can expect a “really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show.”
Peacemaker Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025.
