Andor, the Star Wars series that serves as a prequel to the film Rogue One, is unlikely to release its second season on Disney+ before 2025.
A report from Gizmodo cited sources stating that the second and final season of the show is now expected to debut in 2025, while its fellow Star Wars series The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew are still scheduled to come out in 2024. The delay is said to be caused by the halt in production caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA holding overlapping strikes this year. Andor Season 2 was not listed in the Disney+ press release about the streamer’s 2024 schedule, despite previously being announced for next summer.
Andor spotlights the background of a vital figure in the Rebel Alliance
Andor, starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, premiered in 2022. The series spins off of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, following Cassian’s journey from a petty thief on the run from the Empire after killing Imperial Officers, to the spy who plays an integral role in setting up the Rebel Alliance that rises to bring an end to the reign of the evil Darth Sidious. Andor’s realism and distinguished cast brought critical and commercial acclaim to its first season.
Andor is created by Tony Gilroy, who also serves as the showrunner and co-writer. Along with Luna, Andor stars Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Faye Marsay, and Varada Sethu. Some of these have been confirmed to return with Luna for Season 2, including Stellan Skarsgård‘s Luthen Rael. Andy Serkis, who played the fan-favorite Kino Loy in several episodes, refused to reveal whether he’ll return but has confirmed that Kino Loy is still alive.
Andor Season 1 is now available to stream on Disney+.
