Ms. Marvel star comic resurrection mutant

Marvel Zombies TV Series Will Center on Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan

The Marvels star Iman Vellani is reprising her character, Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan, for the Disney+ animated series Marvel Zombies — and it appears that to some extent, she’ll be at the heart of the show.

In an interview with The Direct, Vellani hyped the upcoming Marvel Studios horror series, which will explore the zombie apocalypse that featured in an episode of What If…?. “We’ve done the whole thing,” Vellani stated, confirming that voice work has been completed. “It was amazing. It was so much fun. And I love — there are a lot of cool characters in the Marvel Zombies show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show.”

Vellani used a reference to The Lord of the Rings to explain Kamala’s role, saying, “They described it to me, it’s like, ‘She’s basically the Frodo of the story.’ And I was like, ‘That’s amazing.'”

Ms. Marvel will have plenty of company in the zombie apocalypse

Many other beloved Marvel characters will join Kamala in the series, some of them voiced by Vellani’s fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe actors. Vellani, who has often expressed her love for Marvel and all of its characters, noted her excitement about the ensemble cast: “And I get to interact and meet all these people along her journey. And, yes, they’re only the voices, and I don’t get to hear their voices in real-time. But just, it’s my fantasies, right? Like, knowing Kamala is going to interact with some really cool people, even if it’s just animation, is so special in a lot of ways.”

Marvel Zombies was announced in 2021. Rather than adapting the comic of the same name by Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillip, the series will take place within the alternate reality shown in What If…? Season 1. Most of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes had already been taken by the undead plague in that episode, so it seems that Ms. Marvel will have a lot of work to do if she’s going to save the day in her spin-off.

Few plot details are known about Marvel Zombies at this time, but a Marvel Studios Comic-Con animation panel revealed that it will be the first Marvel animated series to be rated TV-MA. A release date has not yet been announced.
