The new season of Black Mirror will continue the series’ tradition of filling its call sheet with A-list talent. According to Variety, nine actors have joined the cast of Black Mirror season 6. The list notably includes former Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, who currently appears on HBO’s Westworld, and Deadpool 2’s Zazie Beetz.
Joining Paul and Beetz in the new season are Josh Hartnett (Penny Dreadful), Kate Mara (A Teacher), Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You), Danny Ramirez (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Clara Rugaard (I Am Mother), Auden Thornton (This is Us), and Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts). These actors will appear across three episodes of season 6, with even more casting announcements on the way. Variety confirms that season 6 will comprise more episodes than season 5, which only aired three episodes in 2019. Additionally, each new chapter is being developed as an “individual film,” which hints as longer runtimes that previous episodes.

Over the course of its run, Black Mirror has given several actors the chance to turn in award-worthy performances. Earlier guest-stars like Andrew Scott, Jesse Plemons, and Letitia Wright have all received Emmy nominations for their roles on the show. And since many of these new additions are Emmy winners (or nominees) already, there’s no reason to think they can’t pull off a similar feat.
Series creator Charlie Brooker and his collaborator, Annabel Jones, are returning to spearhead the new season under their new production company, Broke and Bones. The duo originally produced Black Mirror for House of Tomorrow, a division of Endemol Shine Group. But after they left the company in 2020, the show’s future was left in doubt, since Endemol still held the rights to the program. Luckily, both parties eventually worked out a deal, allowing a sixth season to move forward as planned.
Netflix still hasn’t announced a release date for Black Mirror season 6. However, the new episodes have reportedly started production.
