The CW Orders DC’s Naomi To Series, Powerpuff Will Get a New Pilot

Now that the network upfronts are here, The CW has made its pickups for next season. Via Variety, DC’s Naomi has been ordered to series. However, Powerpuff will not be on the fall schedule. Regardless, Powerpuff is far from dead, and will get a new pilot episode.

Naomi is based on the DC comic created by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell in 2019. Kaci Walfall will headline the series as Naomi McDuffie, a seemingly normal girl living in a “small northwestern town.” While exploring the question why superheroes rarely show up near hometown, Naomi discovers a mystery that leads to the multiverse and the truth about who she is and where she comes from.

Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship are writing and executive producing the series alongside Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes. Amanda Marsalis directed the pilot episode, and she is also a co-executive producer. t

Variety’s story doesn’t specify why Powerpuff didn’t make the initial cut. The live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls was highly favored to get ordered to series. Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet, Yana Perrault, and Donald Faison will return for the new pilot episode. Additionally, Powerpuff‘s creative team will remain intact.

For now, there’s no word about whether the Black Lightning spinoff, Painkiller, will go forward at The CW.
