Kevin Feige revealed in a recent interview what convinced Marvel to cast Sadie Sink in a mystery role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It was previously revealed that the Stranger Things star didn’t have to audition for the role.
Kevin Feige reveals why Sadie Sink became the perfect fit for her MCU character
Feige discussed Sink’s casting in Brand New Day during a new Entertainment Weekly interview along with Amy Pascal. “We had a story for Peter,” the Marvel Studios boss said. “And as Amy’s saying, it’s always about Peter. It always starts with Peter and ends with Peter. We had a Peter story that we wanted to tell, and knew that there were a number of characters that could fit into that.” He added that Sink’s name “solidified the idea of the character that she’s playing.”
Speculation has been rampant about Sink’s mystery character. Despite the purported leaks and rumors surrounding the character, fan interest remains as high as ever. In an interview with Collider for Noovie’s Close Up earlier this month, Holland had nothing but praise for Sink. He even said that she steals the third act of Brand New Day. “There’s one with Sadie Sink, who’s making her MCU debut,” The Odyssey actor said. “She handled the pressure of the character that she’s playing with such grace, and the third act, she steals the movie. It is so good.”
The prevailing rumor is that Sink is portraying Jean Grey, a prominent X-Men member in the comics. It gained more traction after singer-songwriter Steve Lacy’s comment about Jean’s inclusion in the movie. Previously, Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner portrayed Jean in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men film series.
Destin Daniel Cretton directed Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Besides Holland and Sink, the cast also includes Zendaya and Mark Ruffalo. The movie premiered at the Doby Theatre on July 27, 2026, and debuts in US theaters on July 31.
