Nicholas Podany Joins The CW’s Powerpuff as Mojo Jojo’s Son

You can’t make a Powerpuff Girls series without the title characters’ archenemy, so it’s good to know that Mojo Jojo will indeed have a presence on The CW’s live-action Powerpuff pilot. But instead of fighting the original talking chimpanzee, the grown-up superheroes will tangle with his offspring. According to Variety, Nicholas Podany has joined the series as Mojo Jojo’s son.

On the original Cartoon Network series, Mojo Jojo used to be Professor Utonium’s pet and lab assistant. After attempting to sabotage Utonium’s creation of the Powerpuff Girls, the resulting explosion gave him an enlarged brain. Mojo quickly became jealous of all the attention the girls were getting, and he subsequently turned to evil.

However, it doesn’t sound like The CW’s version of Mojo is going to be a monkey at all. Podany’s character’s full name is Joseph “Jojo” Mondel Jr., and he was obsessed with the Powerpuff Girls as a “nerdy, power-hungry, [and] insecure” child despite his father’s vendetta against them. But now that he’s grown up, he “finds his sweetness and rage in constant battle.”

Podany previously had a recurring role on The CW’s Hart of Dixie. More recently, he starred in Broadway’s production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as the former boy wizard’s son, Albus. Podany will also appear on Netflix’s upcoming horror series, Archive 81.

Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault are starring as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, respectively. Earlier this week, Donald Faison also joined the cast as Professor Untonium. Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody wrote the series’ pilot with Heather Regnier. The producers have also lined up Maggie Kiley to direct the episode.
