The CW has just dropped a brand-new promo for the upcoming seventh episode of Black Lightning Season 4. The episode is titled “Painkiller,” and it will feature the return of Jordan Calloway’s Khalil Payne, a.k.a. Painkiller. It appears that the next installment of the show will also serve as a backdoor pilot for the possible upcoming Painkiller series. Calloway debuted as Khalil in the freshman season of Black Lightning, becoming a series regular in Season 2. After being paralyzed due to a gunshot, Khalil healed thanks to Tobias Whale’s help, acquiring superhuman abilities in the process. However, Tobias also brainwashed Khalil, who later become one of his henchmen. Only the aid of Jefferson Pierce and the rest of the Black Lightning team helped Khalil in finding his older self and identity.

While The CW has yet to officially announce the Painkiller spin-off, it appears that actors Sibongile Mlambo, Alexander Hodge, and James Roch will play key roles in the upcoming episode. But before fans can watch it, they will have to wait for a while. The CW’s Black Lightning is taking a three-week break to give some space to Bulletproof‘s three-episode event that will take over the time slot of the superhero show.
The next episode of Black Lightning will air on The CW on April 12.
