Ron Moore to Oversee a Magic Kingdom Universe for Disney Plus
Apparently, the time has come for a shared universe with all the Disney parks characters at Disney+. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ron Moore is developing a brand-new franchise that could potentially involve all the characters that are now a Disney IP. The project takes the name of Magic Kingdom Universe, and looks to be the equivalent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first installment, The Society of Explorers and Adventurers, will follow a story where the characters of the Disney parks and classic films and the themed lands exist in a different reality. According to THR sources, the plan is to explore some iconic park characters like the sea boat captain from the Jungle Cruise or prospector from Big Thunder Mountain, or the climbers of the Matterhorn.
Moore is best known for his work on For All Mankind and Outlander. In the past, he came close to working on a Star Wars live-action TV series together with George Lucas for ABC.
“I decided to go there mostly because my childhood was built around a lot of things that were Disney. I am a huge fan and aficionado of the Disneyland park in Anaheim to the point where I would go there by myself periodically and ride the rides,” Moore said while talking with THR. “The opportunity for me to get to work on a lot of the classic IP that Disney has and things in their library that meant so much to me as a child growing up and that I have shared with my children ultimately was just something I couldn’t pass up.”
At the moment, Disney Plus’ representatives declined to comment. Needless to say, the Magic Kingdom Universe is still in its earliest phase.
