Report: Lucasfilm Won’t Recast Cara Dune For Future Star Wars Projects

Last week, Lucasfilm banished Gina Carano from any future  Star Wars projects following The Mandalorian co-star’s latest social media controversy. However, that may also be the end of the road for Carano’s character, Cara Dune.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm isn’t likely to recast Cara Dune. THR’s initial story said that a recast was expected “for both story and merchandising reasons.” However, a Lucasfilm source updated that report and said “that a recasting is not expected.”

THR also notes that Carano was in negotiations last year for a new deal to star in Rangers of the New Republic. But Carano’s social media posts about mask-wearing, voter fraud, and perceived transphobic statements caused Lucasfilm to pull her from Disney’s Investor Day presentation. It’s currently unclear which characters will now be featured in the show.

THR’s report also indicates that Lucasfilm warned Carano to tone down her social posts. Lucasfilm quickly parted ways with Carano following her most recent social media firestorm. Jon Favreau, the creator of The Mandalorian, didn’t make the call regarding Carano. Instead, it “went higher than [Favreau] and was made by Lucasfilm executives.”
