Netflix Announces The Sandman Cast, Confirms Tom Sturridge as Dream

The Sandman fans have been speculating for months about the cast of Netflix’s upcoming adaptation, and now the official word has arrived. The streaming service officially announced in a press release that Tom Sturridge will portray Dream, a.k.a. Morpheus, the Lord of the Dreaming. Sturridge is best known for his role as Lord Byron in 2017’s Mary Shelley and as Carlo Marx in 2012’s On the Road. He recently starred in the Starz series Sweetbitter. His credits also include Dan Gilroy’s Velvet Buzzsaw and Terrence Malick’s Song to Song.

Netflix has also revealed the rest of the cast. And much to everyone’s surprise, Game of Thrones‘ Gwendoline Christie is Lucifer. While many fans might have been expected Tom Ellis to resume his role as the ruler of Hell given that he plays the same character on Lucifer, comic book fans recall that in Neil Gaiman’s comics, Lucifer has the same blonde, ethereal beauty as the English actress and model.

But Christie won’t be the only Game of Thrones alum on set as Charles Dance is Roderick Burgess. In the comics, he is the charlatan, blackmailer, and magician who imprisoned Dream and set the story in motion. And the bad guys also include Boyd Holbrook as the Corinthian, an escaped nightmare who wishes to taste all that the world has in store through the rows of small teeth that line his empty eye sockets.

The cast also sees Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, chief librarian and trusted guardian of Dream’s realm. Asim Chaudhry is Abel, while Sanjeev Bhaskar is Cain, the first victim and the first predator, residents and loyal subjects of the Dream Realm.

Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for the series. In the meantime, you can check the photos of the cast in the gallery below.
