Ms. Marvel Set Pics Show Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan Cosplaying as Captain Marvel

Earlier this year, Marvel Studios picked newcomer Iman Vellani to headline its upcoming Ms. Marvel TV series as Kamala Khan. And while there haven’t been any new casting announcements since then, the show has already begun production in Atlanta, and a few set photos have made their way online. The new images show Vellani’s Kamala apparently cosplaying as her idol Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. More specifically, she’s wearing her take on Carol’s Starforce uniform. You can check out the pics below.

In the comics, Kamala is a big Captain Marvel fan, and she looked up to Carol’s heroic alter-ego. When Kamala was exposed to Terrigen Mists and manifested her Inhuman polymorphic abilities, she also took the Ms. Marvel name from Carol’s previous alter ego.

Most importantly, these pictures actually confirm Vellani’s involvement with Ms. Marvel, which is more than we can say about some of Marvel’s other small-screen projects. In September, word broke that Tatiana Maslany had signed on to star in the studio’s She-Hulk series. Regardless, Maslany later dismissed the announcement as “a press release that’s gotten out of hand.” More recently, it was also reported that Oscar Isaac is Marvel’s pick for Moon Knight.

Bisha K. Ali is developing Ms. Marvel as head writer and executive producer. Previously, Marvel filled out the show’s directing team with a diverse roster of behind-the-scenes talent. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon will each helm their own blocks of episodes for the series.

Disney+ has yet to set a release date for Ms. Marvel.
