One of the MCU’s most powerful characters may not be gone for good after all. A new rumor suggests this fan-favorite hero-turned-villain will return in a major role during Marvel’s next saga.

Wanda rumored to play a major role beyond Avengers: Secret Wars
Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello recently shared a major rumor about Wanda Maximoff’s future in the MCU. The insider claimed on X, “Not only will Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff return, but she’s also set to be one of the main leads – and villains – of the Mutant Saga.” This report suggests Wanda’s role extends well beyond Avengers: Secret Wars.
Wanda Maximoff last appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022. She seemingly died after destroying the Darkhold Castle atop Mount Wundagore. However, an official Marvel timeline book later confirmed her death in that film. Despite this confirmation, fans have long speculated about a potential return for the character.
Elizabeth Olsen first appeared as Wanda in Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s mid-credits scene in 2014. She then starred in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and both Infinity War and Endgame. Olsen also headlined the Disney+ series WandaVision in 2021. Her performance earned nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
Meanwhile, the character’s arc took a darker turn in Multiverse of Madness. Wanda attacked Kamar-Taj, killed members of the Earth-838 Illuminati, and pursued America Chavez. She ultimately sacrificed herself after realizing her alternate sons feared her. The Darkhold’s corruption drove much of her villainous behavior throughout the film.
Additionally, the Agatha All Along series referenced Wanda’s death and its aftermath on Westview. Residents vandalized her former property and refused to speak her name. Billy Maximoff survived the Hex’s collapse and later appeared in that series. If the rumor proves accurate, Olsen’s return would mark one of the Mutant Saga’s most significant casting developments.
