CBS All Access Drops the First Teaser For The Stand

Stephen King’s The Stand isn’t about the end of the world. It’s about what comes after, when most of humanity has been wiped out by a plague. In 1994, ABC adapted King’s novel as a miniseries. Now, CBS All Access is preparing an all-new adaptation slated for later this year. During the MTV Video awards ceremony, the first teaser trailer for The Stand was finally released.

The video begins with Frannie Goldsmith (Odessa Young), a pregnant young woman who survived the plague. Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg) appears in a vision to invite Frannie to find her. There’s also a brief glimpse of Jovan Adepo as Larry Underwood, one of the main characters in the book. Larry and a handful of other survivors will ultimately band together under Mother Abagail’s leadership. Their collective hope is that they can avoid the mistakes of the past that doomed the rest of humanity.

However, there’s also a darker force in play. Alexander Skarsgård’s Randall Flagg is gathering his followers as well.  Flagg intends to control the new world, but first, he has to destroy Mother Abagail and her faction. And as you can see in the clips, Flagg isn’t shy about showing off his powers.

The Stand will premiere on CBS All Access on Thursday, December 17.
