New Watchmen Teasers Highlight a New Masked Character

HBO finally gave us a proper trailer for their upcoming Watchmen series last month. Unfortunately, it didn’t exactly provide concrete story details or explain how it relates to the original graphic novel. The trailer followed months of teasing via short Instagram videos, and it looks like the network doesn’t plan to stop posting those any time soon. The show’s official Instagram page has just dropped three new clips from the series. You can check them out for yourself below.

The trio of clips centers on a new character who will make his debut on the series. Given the reflective aspect of his mask, we can assume that this is Looking Glass, who will be played by Tim Blake Nelson. The character seems to have a connection to Rorschach, as glimpsed in the second video where the inkblot pattern of his mask is clearly reflected in Looking Glass’ own visage. Additionally, the caption (“The Abyss Gazes Also”) references the sixth chapter of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ original graphic novel. In that installment, Rorschach recounts his origin story.

The second clip also shows a man reflected in his mask. It’s kind of hard to make out, but it looks a bit like Jeremy Irons’ Adrian Veidt. However, the first video is especially noteworthy because it looks like the character is surveying a crime scene. This lends further credence to the theory that some masked heroes (or villains?) are now working with the police.

Watchmen premieres on HBO this fall. What do you make of these new teasers? Do you see any other pertinent details? Let us know in the comment section below!
