The CW Orders the Arrowverse Batwoman TV Series
For the last few years, The CW has dramatically increased its superhero series. Now, that trend will continue with Batwoman. At The CW 2019 upfronts, the network officially ordered Batwoman to series. That will make it the fourth spinoff from Arrow; which also spawned The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. The Supergirl series debuted on CBS before officially joining the Arrowverse late in its first season.
Ruby Rose made her first appearance as Kate Kane/Batwoman during the Elseworlds crossover last year. Now that Batwoman is going forward, it is the first superhero series to feature a LGBT main character and actress as the primary lead. The pilot episode will take place prior to the crossover episodes. However, there’s still the potential for Batwoman to take part in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover later this year.
Dougray Scott is playing Kate’s father Jacob Kane, while Elizabeth Anweis is portraying Kate’s step-mother, Catherine Hamilton-Kane. Kate’s nemesis, Alice, is being played by Rachel Skarsten; an actress who previously starred in The WB’s Birds of Prey TV series.
Camrus Johnson is also in the series as Luke Fox, the son Bruce Wayne’s right hand man, Lucius Fox. Meagan Tandy is playing Sophie Moore, Kate Kane’s lover from their time in military academy. Nicole Kang will play Kate’s stepsister. Mary Hamilton.
Batwoman will likely debut on The CW this fall.
