Oscar-nominated “Junebug” star Amy Adams has landed the lead female role in Disney and Spyglass’ Underdog, reports Variety.
The live action/CGI hybrid version of the classic 1960s cartoon stars is directed by Frederik Du Chau.
The cartoon followed the adventures of a humble dog named Shoeshine Boy who became the superheroic Underdog, who spoke in rhyme. In the movie, he is adopted by a 12-year-old boy and uses his superpower to protect his love, Polly Purebred, and the citizens of Capitol City from the evil Simon Barsinister.
Jason Lee will voice the title character and Peter Dinklage plays Barsinister.
Spyglass’ Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jonathan Glickman are producing along with Jay Polstein. Eric Ellenbogen and Bob Higgins executive produce.
Adams next will be seen in Sony’s “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” and Disney’s “Enchanted.”
