Zack Snyder finally addressed the Justice League epilogue scene that has haunted fans for years. The filmmaker revealed where audiences can find the full story behind Batman and Joker‘s uneasy alliance against Superman.

Zack Snyder pointed fans toward existing storyboards that outline his complete Justice League trilogy vision during a recent Preston & Steve Show interview. The filmmaker confirmed that his team whiteboarded the entire three-movie arc. “We whiteboarded the entire three movie… three other movies that have yet to be seen,” Snyder said.
He encouraged fans to seek out these materials themselves. “If you do a little bit of research, you can see the entire what the vision was,” Snyder added. These storyboards, which include artwork by legendary DC artist Jim Lee, have circulated online since 2021. Fan accounts previously shared detailed photos of the Justice League 2 storyboard panels on X (formerly Twitter).
The storyboards map out the Knightmare timeline and Darkseid’s conquest of Earth. They cover the events teased in the Zack Snyder’s Justice League epilogue post-credit scene. That sequence featured Batman leading a ragtag team alongside Joker, Mera, Flash, Cyborg, and Deathstroke.
Snyder has previously confirmed that Justice League 2 would have depicted Superman turning evil after Darkseid’s invasion. The Flash would escape the apocalyptic timeline and travel back to warn Batman. Justice League 3 would then follow Batman’s sacrifice and Earth’s final battle against Darkseid.
The interview also touched on Snyder’s upcoming projects, including his Escape from New York reboot. He teased ongoing rumors about a Dark Knight Returns adaptation. “I love the rumors… maybe if there’s enough rumors someone will make the movie,” Snyder said.
Snyder appeared on the show primarily to promote The Last Photograph, his indie passion project premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 13. The filmmaker shot the movie himself as both director and cinematographer across Colombia, the Amazon, Iceland, and Pasadena.
