Zack Snyder is keeping the details of the planned 300 prequel series under wraps, but he finally offered fans a promising tease. During an appearance on The Preston & Steve Show, the filmmaker briefly talked about the project’s current status, suggesting the long-discussed return to Sparta remains alive.

Asked about the series, Snyder stopped short of revealing concrete production details. “I can’t really talk about it,” he explained before calling its status “awesome.” He then pointed toward the possibilities behind the project, describing the 300 universe as an “incredible” world that could expand far beyond the original story.
Snyder also compared the potential scope to Game of Thrones, saying the idea of a “Game of Thronesian version of 300” was particularly exciting to consider. That comment hints that this time the scale might be much bigger than simply revisiting familiar characters or battles.
The original 300 arrived as a visual knockout from Snyder, with Gerard Butler leading the cast as King Leonidas alongside Lena Headey, David Wenham, Dominic West and Rodrigo Santoro. Made for an estimated $65 million, the film collected more than $456 million worldwide. It currently carries a 7.6/10 IMDb rating and a 61% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The success helped turn Snyder into one of Hollywood’s most recognizable genre filmmakers. His résumé later expanded through Watchmen, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Army of the Dead, and Rebel Moon. He also became closely tied to Justice League after Warner Bros. released Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021, giving fans the long-requested version of his DC superhero movie.
The long-rumored 300 return began taking shape at Warner Bros. Television in 2024, when the studio started developing a prequel series set before Zack Snyder’s 2007 film. Snyder was reportedly being considered for a major role behind the camera, potentially directing and serving as an executive producer alongside Deborah Snyder and other veterans from the original production.
Beyond its connection to the first movie, however, the project remained something of a mystery. Early reports pointed toward a story exploring the world before 300, but Warner Bros. kept specific plot details under wraps.
