‘S— Goes off the Rails’ for One Beloved Alien: Earth Character in Season 2

Timothy Olyphant has teased a strange turn ahead for one of Alien: Earth’s most intriguing characters. The actor says the character will face some unexpected developments when the sci-fi drama returns, hinting that the synthetic’s story could take a decidedly unusual direction.

Timothy Olyphant says Alien: Earth Season 2 gets ‘a little weird’ for Kirsh

Timothy Olyphant offered the brief but intriguing update while speaking with Esquire about his unusually busy 2026. The 58-year-old actor is currently filming the second season in London, where he has returned as Kirsh. For the role, he once again sports the character’s striking neo-punk appearance, complete with bleached platinum hair and eyebrows.

Asked specifically about Kirsh’s journey in the upcoming episodes, Olyphant did not reveal major plot details. Instead, he kept things cryptic, saying that “s— goes off the rails just a little bit” for Kirsh and that things “get a little weird this year.” The deliberately vague tease gives fans plenty of room to wonder what the synthetic has waiting around the corner.

Olyphant’s return comes during an especially packed stretch of his career. Since his previous Esquire interview, he has filmed seven projects, including Apple TV’s Lucky, where he plays John Armstrong, the incarcerated father of Anya Taylor-Joy’s character. He is also collaborating with Brad Pitt in David Fincher’s upcoming Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood sequel, scheduled to hit theaters in November.

His expanding workload has not exactly gone unnoticed by the actor himself. Olyphant joked about whether he might be working too much but ultimately said he feels “quite lucky” and wants to enjoy the opportunity while it lasts. He also credited his status as an “empty nester,” along with a renewed enthusiasm for acting, for helping explain his packed schedule.

Beyond acting, Olyphant has developed a serious interest in ceramics, describing the hobby as similar to performing because both allow him to play and create. “To some degree, it’s not too far off from what I like about acting. … It’s child’s play,” Olyphant says.
