Should Tom Holland & Zendaya Play Hercules & Meg? Original Actor Gives Verdict

Susan Egan, who voiced Meg in Disney’s 1997 animated Hercules, has weighed in on who she would like to see lead the planned live-action remake. Egan has backed Tom Holland and Zendaya for the roles of Hercules and Meg, respectively. Her casting suggestion comes as Disney’s long-awaited remake continues to spark interest.

Susan Egan, the original voice of Megara in Disney’s 1997 animated Hercules, has named Tom Holland and Zendaya as her ideal choices for the studio’s planned live-action remake. Egan wants Zendaya to take on the role she originally voiced, while Holland would portray the Greek demigod.

Egan shared her casting preferences while speaking with Deadline at D23, where she was honored as a Disney Legend. She revealed that she had previously been hinting at Zendaya for the role but decided to make her choice public. “I mean, I’ve been subtly saying Zendaya, but now I’m just gonna say it,” Egan said.

She joked,  “And probably, Tom and Zendaya, whom I have never met, are filing for the restraining order right now.” However, Egan made it clear that she still wanted to see the couple considered for the project, saying, “But honestly, I don’t even care. I feel like the world needs it.”

Egan also explained why she considers Zendaya suited to the role of Meg. “Not even because they are the ‘it’ couple right now, it’s not even that. I have watched her beautiful career from when she was a teenager, and she’s just grounded. She is a strong woman, obviously, statuesque and amazing, with an incredible voice and a little edge, don’t you think?” she said.  

Neither Holland nor Zendaya has been officially cast in the live-action Hercules. The project has been in development for several years, with Guy Ritchie attached to direct since 2022.
