A trusted Marvel insider has weighed in on whether Avengers: Secret Wars will be delayed beyond its current theatrical release date. Marvel Studios’ December 2027 film will conclude MCU Phase Six. With filming yet to begin, some fans are wondering if the highly anticipated movie could be pushed to 2028.
The Cosmic Circus released a Q&A report with Alex Perez, a prominent Marvel insider and journalist, in which he addressed several upcoming MCU movies. When asked about the possibility of Avengers: Secret Wars being pushed to 2028 because filming has not started yet, Perez said the chances are “very, very slim.”
That does not guarantee Marvel will stick to its current release schedule. However, given Perez’s response and the studio’s production timeline, there is currently little reason to expect a delay to 2028.
What else do we know about Avengers: Secret Wars?
Marvel has remained secretive about Avengers: Secret Wars. The movie is expected to be the culmination of Phase Six and the Multiverse Saga. Russo Brothers, the iconic duo behind Infinity War and Endgame, will helm the project. The film draws inspiration from the events of Jonathan Hickman’s 2015 comic book of the same name. In the comic storyline, Doctor Doom creates Battleworld from fragments of different realities after the multiverse collapses.
The movie will follow the events of Avengers: Doomsday, which will feature Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom. Both movies are expected to feature characters from across the MCU, including members of the X-Men, Thunderbolts, New Avengers and Fantastic Four.
Avengers: Secret Wars is currently in development, with production expected to begin soon. The schedule is expected to last approximately six months.
Perez also shared multiple details about the movie’s story and characters in the same Q&A. Doctor Doom will serve as the main antagonist, with several characters reportedly siding with him for a large portion of the movie before eventually turning against him. The insider also claims that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will appear in Secret Wars.
While nothing has been confirmed, fans will have to wait for Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, for more details about what comes next.
