Chris Evans teases Avengers: Doomsday will put Steve Rogers through hell
Chris Evans recently teased fans with an idea of what awaits Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday, suggesting that the character will once again face intense physical and emotional challenges.
Speaking at Fan Expo Boston, Evans specifically pointed to the Russo brothers’ treatment of Steve Rogers throughout the Avengers films. “The Russos love beating up Steve Rogers. Their favourite thing to do is to just beat the crap out of him,” he said during the fan Q&A. Evans said the Russos believe Steve’s ability to keep going after being beaten down is what makes him a hero.
“To them, that’s what makes a hero, and that’s someone who gets punched so many times but still gets up,” he said. The actor then teased that the next Avengers film will continue that pattern. “So they keep finding new ways to kick his butt, but this one was brutal, and a really good examination into his nature and his values,” Evans added.
Marvel’s decision to bring Evans back was kept under wraps for some time. His involvement was eventually confirmed when the first Avengers: Doomsday teaser was released in December 2025. The video shown to exhibitors at CinemaCon 2026 also offered an early look at Rogers’ role in the story. One of the trailer’s major moments showed him reuniting with Thor while lifting Mjolnir once again.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to open in theaters on December 18, 2027.
