A new rumor suggests that Marvel Studios could be taking the Thor franchise in an unexpected direction. Reports claim the next standalone film may no longer move forward as Thor 5, with the project instead reportedly shifting its focus to a different MCU god. The claim has yet to receive official confirmation.
Fifth Thor movie rumored to be turned into a Hercules project with Chris Hemsworth
A new report has fueled speculation about the future of Marvel Studios’ Thor franchise. According to social media scooper James Mack, the studio is reportedly considering a different direction for its next Thor movie by developing it as Hercules instead of Thor 5.
The report alleges that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor would continue to play a major role in the project but would no longer be its primary protagonist. Instead, the film would reportedly revolve around Hercules, with Thor serving as a secondary lead. It also claims that Marvel Studios is planning to introduce Ares and Angela. As of now, none of these details have been verified by Marvel Studios.
The latest report comes as Hemsworth recently addressed Thor’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking with the BBC, the actor acknowledged that Thor’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains undecided. “I don’t know. We’ll see where this one goes,” Hemsworth said when asked about Thor’s future in Marvel.
The actor also explained that discussions about the next stage of several Marvel characters are still underway. “We are unpacking that as we speak, and figuring out where each of these characters goes. I’m just thankful for being involved with this one at Marvel, back together with a lot of the old cast, and then the new cast. We’ll see what happens,” he added.
Previous reports have estimated a 2028 or 2029 release for Thor 5. The estimate is based on Marvel Studios’ current production timeline, with Thor expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday later this year, and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, before his next standalone film.
