Fans who watched Spider-Man: Brand New Day think they spotted a clever cameo from a popular Marvel superhero. Tom Holland‘s fourth Spider-Man film is packed with easter eggs and deep-cut references for fans to spot. The latest reveal may have major consequences for the future of the MCU.
In one scene, a student in Dr. Bruce Banner’s class asks him about the logistics of Thanos’ plan to wipe out half of all life in the universe. Attentive fans noticed that the student’s name is Cindy and believe it is a reference to Cindy Moon. In the Marvel comics, Moon becomes Silk, another superhero with spider-related abilities.
Several social media users on X noticed the name drop. @nuel_irl wrote, “Why isn’t anyone talking about this!?! Cindy Moon was in Dr.Banner’s Class.” @cloudfmz commented, “Fun Fact: The girl who asked this question is Cindy Moon.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t the first time Cindy Moon has appeared in the MCU
This isn’t the first time that Cindy has been name-dropped in the MCU. In the previous Spider-Man trilogy, Tiffany Espensen played a student named Cindy, whom many fans believe is an adaptation of the character. In Brand New Day, Cindy is played by Shannon Young Cho. If this is indeed the same character, it appears Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures decided to recast the role.
Cindy Moon has appeared in various Spider-Man media, most recently in the post-credits scene of Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 video game. Sony was previously developing the live-action series Silk: Spider-Society with Amazon before it was canceled in 2024. At the time, it was reported that Sony was shopping the series to other buyers, with no updates since then.
Whether Cindy’s appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a meaningless cameo or part of a larger plan remains to be seen. For his part, Tom Holland has already teased his replacement in the MCU.
