X-Men Report: Kevin Feige Interested in Anya Taylor-Joy for Familiar Role

Anya Taylor-Joy could be suiting up for Marvel Studios once again. A new rumor suggests Kevin Feige has his eye on the actress for a familiar role in the MCU’s mutant future.

X-Men rumor suggests Kevin Feige wants Anya Taylor-Joy back as Magik

Scooper MyTimeToShineHello reported on X that Kevin Feige wants Anya Taylor-Joy back as Magik.

The insider claimed, “Kevin Feige is reportedly interested in bringing Anya Taylor-Joy back as Magik.” Taylor-Joy previously played the character in 2020’s The New Mutants. She portrayed Illyana Rasputin, a Russian mutant with teleportation powers and a magical Soulsword.

The New Mutants served as the final film under Fox’s X-Men franchise before Disney’s acquisition. Notably, Taylor-Joy starred alongside Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, and Blu Hunt in the film. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and audiences upon its pandemic-era release. However, Taylor-Joy’s portrayal of the sharp-tongued sorceress stood out as a highlight for many viewers.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios currently has an untitled X-Men film in active development for the MCU. Jake Schreier signed on to direct the project after helming Thunderbolts* for the studio. Additionally, the film entered pre-production in August 2025, according to Schreier’s comments to Empire. Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo also recently joined the project to rewrite Michael Lesslie’s original script.

Feige previously told Gizmodo that the MCU’s X-Men roster would feature familiar and new faces. He stated the team would likely include “a mix of characters you’ve seen before and characters you’ve never seen before.” He also expressed excitement about bringing the franchise’s signature interpersonal drama into the MCU. The studio head indicated the film would release sometime after Avengers: Secret Wars.

Taylor-Joy has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actresses since The New Mutants. She earned critical acclaim for her roles in The Queen’s Gambit, Last Night in Soho, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Her return as Magik would mark a rare instance of an actor carrying over from Fox’s Marvel films into the MCU.
