Tombstone fans may want to temper their expectations for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. A new insider report casts doubt on the villain’s role in the upcoming MCU sequel.
Tombstone may not have a major role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Industry insider Cryptic HD QUALITY claims that Tombstone’s role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is small. The claim contradicts widespread fan speculation that Marvin Jones III’s villain serves as the film’s secret main antagonist.
This update arrives after official promotional art surfaced online via All Posters ahead of the July 31 release.
The promo art showcased Tombstone’s live-action design as a New York crime boss with pale gray skin and white hair. Additional artwork teased a direct clash between Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Tombstone during the film. Fans had speculated that Tombstone was secretly bankrolling villains like Boomerang, Tarantula, and Scorpion throughout the movie.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day pits Tom Holland’s Peter Parker against multiple antagonists simultaneously. Mac Gargan returns from Spider-Man: Homecoming and fully transforms into Scorpion for the sequel. Boomerang and Tarantula join the roster as street-level threats in Peter’s isolated post-No Way Home life.
Jones III’s portrayal of Tombstone still carries major significance for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He marks the first villain actor to reprise a live-action role after originally voicing the character in animation. Jones previously brought Tombstone to life in Sony’s Spider-Verse animated franchise before landing the live-action part.
The character also achieves a rare milestone as the first Marvel villain to appear three times in one year. Tombstone features in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 on Disney+ alongside Brand New Day. The villain additionally appears in Spider-Noir on Prime Video, expanding his footprint across Marvel’s interconnected multimedia projects this year.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, hits theaters on July 31.
