He-Man actor Dolph Lundgren possibly set to return in Masters of the Universe
Dolph Lundgren may return to the Masters of the Universe reboot scheduled for 2026. The actor played He Man in the 1987 film that introduced the character to live action audiences. Asked about appearing in the new movie, Lundgren said, “Maybe, yeah, you’ll have to check it out when it comes out” (via Entertainment Weekly).
Reports from fan site He Mania claim Lundgren appears in a scene set on Earth rather than Eternia. The report states the sequence occurs inside a fitness gym where Prince Adam trains. Lundgren’s character reportedly offers advice before ending the conversation with the phrase “Good Journey.” The appearance would place the interaction early in the film’s story development.
Speculation about Lundgren’s role increased after Toy Fair 2026 displayed a statue of a king holding a sword resembling the weapon used in the 1987 film. Some fans interpreted the figure as a reference to King Grayskull. The report stated that Lundgren’s rumored appearance differs from that speculation. It instead described a gym meeting with Adam on Earth.
Lundgren previously discussed returning to the franchise in a different role. In 2012 he said he preferred portraying King Randor rather than repeating the demanding costume worn during the original film. He told IGN, “I wouldn’t wanna take my shirt off again for three months and wear that diaper.” role of King Randor is played by James Purefoy.
Masters of the Universe features Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam and He Man. After filming concluded, Galitzine wrote on Instagram, “It has been an honour shouldering the responsibility of playing Adam and He Man.” Mattel executive PJ Lewis also described visiting the set and seeing the Power Sword. Lewis said the visit gave him goosebumps during production preparations.
