Two major characters who died in Thor 4 are now at the center of fresh speculation surrounding Avengers: Doomsday. A new rumor has sparked discussion about whether the upcoming Marvel film could bring back familiar faces through an unexpected storyline twist.

Jane and Heimdall could return in Avengers: Doomsday
A rumor from scooper MyTimeToShineHello claims, “In Avengers Doomsday the army Thor gets from Odin comes to him from Valhalla so get ready to see old characters back.” The post was shared on February 26, 2026, on X and references the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. While the rumor does not name specific characters, it suggests that figures connected to Valhalla could appear.
The scooper also said, “In Avengers Doomsday Thor prays to Odin for help, and Odin answers by sending him an army!”, backing up the earlier claim about Odin sending forces to assist Thor.
The Valhalla reference suggests Marvel could bring back characters the Marvel Cinematic Universe previously depicted as deceased. Earlier films showed Jane Foster entering Valhalla and directly associated Heimdall with it, positioning both characters as potential returnees. Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun also died on screen, and Marvel could include them if the storyline directly involves Valhalla.
Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworth confirmed there are plans for him to continue playing Thor beyond Doomsday. Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, Hemsworth said, “It’s been so much fun,” and confirmed there were plans for him to return “a couple of times” after the film. He added, “And whatever we do next — we’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be [different].”
Hemsworth also reflected on past tonal shifts in the Thor films, stating, “You do need to be careful.” Discussing Thor: Love and Thunder, he said, “It was kind of like a Monty Python sketch, and we took the piss probably a little much, and then there was some backlash.”
Marvel will release Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026. It will follow the film with Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
