Production on Season 2 is nearing completion, marking a significant step forward for the newest installment in the Star Trek franchise. With filming scheduled to wrap this week, the timeline points toward a possible late 2026 release date for Season 2 of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. However, an early 2027 premiere appears more in line with recent release patterns.
Cast member George Hawkins confirmed that work on the second season is almost finished. “We wrap on Saturday. We’re almost there,” he told Collider, hinting that principal photography is entering its final days. The update follows earlier comments from the creative team indicating that production had moved swiftly after the show’s debut season.
The structure of the upcoming season’s finale also reflects a shift in approach. According to co-star Sandro Rosta, the final two episodes were filmed consecutively and in the same sequence in which they will air. “It’s the first time we’re actually filming one after the other,” Rosta noted.
Behind the camera, co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman remains closely involved. He previously confirmed that he is directing the Season 2 finale himself. He told the same outlet, “I’m about to go direct the finale, so, yeah, we’re close to being done.” Kurtzman previously directed the first two episodes of Season 1. Fellow co-showrunner Noga Landau continues to oversee the series alongside him.
With filming nearly complete, attention now turns to post-production and scheduling. The current franchise trends suggest that audiences are more likely to see Season 2 arrive in early 2027. However, as of now, there is no confirmation about Season 2’s release date.
