Another day, another batch of Avengers: Doomsday updates for Marvel fans to theorize on.
Last week, insider Daniel Richtman claimed that Scarlet Witch would receive a solo project in the next saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, believed to be centered around the X-Men and mutants. With Scarlet Witch currently dead, having buried herself under Mount Wundagore in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the fan-favorite character will need to be resurrected. It now looks like that will happen in Avengers: Doomsday.
According to Alex Perez of the Cosmic Circus, Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch will appear in Doomsday, although he noted that “her involvement is slightly unexpected.” It’s unclear what Perez means by “unexpected,” although given her evolution into an anti-hero, she could be one of the characters who will reportedly change sides and betray those who counted on her.
Which MCU character will make their live-action debut in Avengers: Doomsday?
Perez also revealed that he has heard that The Watcher may appear in Doomsday, which would serve as his live-action debut in the MCU. Jeffrey Wright has voiced the character in all three seasons of What If…? and I Am Groot. The Watcher also made non-speaking cameos in X-Men ’97, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Eyes of Wakanda, and Marvel Zombies.
Based on confirmed and leaked details, Avengers: Doomsday promises to be an action-packed multiversal movie filled with the heroes fans have grown to love over the past two decades. For instance, the movie’s opening scene will reportedly show Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Doc Ock fighting the Fox X-Men, with the former’s universe being destroyed.
Doomsday will take place 14 months after the main events of last year’s Thunderbolts*, following the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the X-Men as they team up to face Doctor Doom.
Robert Downey Jr. will portray Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom in Doomsday, as well as its direct sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. The actor is also expected, via unconfirmed reports, to be reprising his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the movie.
Directed by the Russo Brothers, Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
