Avengers: Doomsday might not end up being the crossover team-up movie most fans are expecting.
With Doomsday’s December 2026 release date fast approaching, rumors about the Avengers movie have been shared more frequently online. So far, with what has been reported, Doomsday will be nowhere close to the type of team-up movie that fans saw in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
It’s every universe for itself in Avengers: Doomsday
According to trusted scooper Alex Perez of the Cosmic Circus, Doctor Strange is not the only superhero who will betray his allies in Doomsday. With the movie set to feature the impending ends of multiple universes, most heroes will focus solely on protecting their own universe, even if that means the end of another.
“I disagree. In IW, while one could make the case for Thanos’ perspective on the Snap, you could still as an audience member tell that the good guys were the Avengers and the Guardians, and the Bad Guys where Thanos and his Black Order,” Perez wrote on X.
“In Doomsday, it’s almost an ‘every universe for their [sic] theirselves’ type of situation, where all the heroes will literally be pushed to the brink of their limits and morality, and some will even cross lines they never thought they’d have to cross to get the job done . . . and that includes some unexpected betrayals,” continued the scooper.
It had previously been reported that Avengers: Doomsday’s opening scene will show Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Doc Ock fighting the Fox X-Men, with the former’s universe being destroyed.
Marvel Studios has been laying the groundwork for multiple incursions to begin happening across the MCU Multiverse. For the unfamiliar, an incursion is a catastrophic event where two separate universes begin to collide and merge, leading to the destruction of one or both realities. Doctor Strange triggered one at the end of 2022’s Multiverse of Madness, while 2023’s The Marvels saw Monica Rambeau stranded in another universe after closing a rupture between realities.
All will be revealed when Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
