Netflix shows may have found it difficult to retain audiences, let alone grow their viewership count, with each new installment, but there is one series that has emphatically broken the pattern. A recent update revealed that almost every other show on Netflix ended up losing a significant amount of viewership in their latest season, barring Season 5 of the fan-favorite sci-fi mystery series, Stranger Things.
Stranger Things is the only show to not lose any viewers with latest season
According to a new report, Stranger Things became the only major Netflix show to experience a growth in its viewership count after the release of a new installment, with Season 5 getting 2.25% more views than its predecessor.
Notably, as per the data published by Netflix & Chiffres, the fourth season of the Netflix original had recorded an impressive 102 million views in the first 28 days of streaming. In contrast, the fifth and final addition to Stranger Things managed to overshadow the said viewership count, with Season 5 Volume 1 garnering 104.3 million views in the same period.
Meanwhile, most of the remaining Netflix shows, which debuted a new season in 2025, experienced a considerable drop in viewership.
- Ginny & Georgia (Season 3) – Recorded a 5% drop from Season 2 but managed to secure renewal for a fourth season.
- The Diplomat (Season 3) – A 6.3% drop from its previous installment was enough to sanction renewal for Season 4.
- My Life With The Walter Boys (Season 2) – 9.6% drop from Season 1.
- The Night Agent (Season 2) – Dropped 44.7%. The series had recorded a massive viewership count during Season 1. This suggests that despite a consequential fall in views, the Netflix show is still seen as a success.
- Wednesday (Season 2) – 42.6% drop from Season 1.
- Nobody Wants This (Season 2) – Dropped 40.1%. However, multiple Emmy nominations in 2025 convinced Netflix to order a third season.
- The Witcher (Season 4) – 52% drop from Season 3. The short-lived Liam Hemsworth era will end with Season 5.
- FUBAR (Season 2) – A 75.9% drop from its debut chapter ultimately led to its cancellation.
- The Recruit (Season 2) – Canceled after experiencing a 42.1% drop.
- Emily in Paris (Season 5) – Dropped 20.5%.
- Black Mirror (Season 7) – Dropped 21.4%.
- You (Season 5) – Dropped 32.1% and ended.
- The Sandman (Season 2) – Dropped 60% and ended.
