Peacemaker’s Popular Martian Manhunter Theory Debunked

With many fans wondering about whether Peacemaker Season 2 had quietly introduced the DCU’s iteration of the Martian Manhunter, James Gunn recently addressed the theory. In a recent social media interaction, the DC Studios co-CEO definitively answered whether the iconic Justice League member featured in the sophomore season of the John Cena-led series, also debunking an ongoing theory about the character in the process.

James Gunn confirms Langston Fleury is not Martian Manhunter

James Gunn recently addressed a theory about the DCU while answering fan questions online. While responding to a fan on Threads, Gunn confirmed that Tim Meadows’ A.R.G.U.S. agent Langston Fleury is not the Martian Manhunter. (via Superman Saga News)

“He’s not,” the acclaimed filmmaker noted in his reply to a fan. He also expressed confusion regarding fans criticizing the lack of “big reveals” in the Peacemaker Season 2 finale in his answer, adding, “I don’t get that people don’t think there aren’t big reveals here, including Checkmate and Salvation.”

Prior to Gunn’s clarification, many fans had theorizing that Peacemaker’s Langston Fleury was actually the DCU’s Martian Manhunter. Following his introduction in Peacemaker Season 2, Fleury reveals that he is unable to distinguish between different types of birds. Many on the internet interpreted it as the character trying to understand humans due to his extraterrestrial nature, deducing that he could be the Martian Manhunter.

Fans have also cited a line in Gunn’s recent Superman film as potential evidence of Martian Manhunter’s existence in the DCU. While confronting David Corenswet’s titular superhero in one sequence, Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor says, “Tall, dark, and Martian aren’t my thing.” Notably, Zack Snyder revealed Harry Lennix’s character to be the Martian Manhunter in the DCEU, and many fans believed that Gunn could also adopt a similar strategy in the DCU.

However, Gunn has now debunked the theory. It remains to be seen if and when the Martian Manhunter will make his debut in the DCU.
