David Henrie has hinted that Selena Gomez’s character, Alex Russo, may not have died in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

On October 8, 2025, Henrie posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Just so you know, Alex Russo is tougher than you think – and there’s a lot more to come. You’re asking all the right questions. Stay tuned, #WizardsBeyond has got some magical surprises up our sleeves.” The post followed the Season 2 finale, which depicted Alex’s apparent death after she sacrificed herself to save her family from Lord Morsus.

In the episode “The Wizard at the End of the World,” Alex pushed Morsus through a rift, seemingly dying in the process. Before disappearing, she told her daughter Billie, “We’ll find each other again. I promise.” The finale also revealed that Billie was Alex’s biological daughter, and Justin promised they would search for her, suggesting the story may continue.

Speaking to TV Insider, Henrie described the finale as “the most cliffhanger season we’ve had in Wizards history,” saying, “When you discover the easter egg, you’re going to know that there’s something bigger that needs to be answered in question.” His comments supported fan theories suggesting that the writers deliberately left Alex’s fate unresolved.

In the final scene, Justin’s sons, Milo and Roman, speculated that Alex was trapped in another dimension. This moment directly reflected Henrie’s mention of an “easter egg” pointing to her potential survival. The development further fueled speculation that the next season might center on rescuing Alex from another realm. Lord Morsus may also return as part of that storyline.
